Central platform for fact-checks in German
The German-Austrian Digital Media Observatory (GADMO) is the largest anti-disinformation alliance of fact-checkers and academic researchers in Germany and Austria. We provide the central platform for fact-checks in German. Our team observes and researches disinformation campaigns, their spread and possible countermeasures by large technology corporations. Furthermore, we actively strive to improve the media literacy of internet users in Germany and Austria.
At GADMO, the leading fact-checking organisations in Germany and Austria – the German Press Agency (dpa), the international news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP), the Austria Press Agency (APA) and the non-profit independent newsroom CORRECTIV – are collaborating for the first time. They are working together with communication and data scientists from the Institute of Journalism and the Department of Statistics of TU Dortmund University as well as the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology. The Athens Technology Center is a technical partner in the project.
Part of of an EU-wide initiative
GADMO is part of the Europe-wide network of the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO). The EU-funded initiative coordinates a network of 14 hubs active in all member states of the European Union. EDMO brings together fact-checkers, media experts and academic researchers to create a network capable of detecting and analysing disinformation campaigns, organising media literacy activities at national or multinational level, and providing support for other activities to fight disinformation.
