TU Dortmund University is involved in GADMO with two institutions: the Institute of Journalism (IJ) and the Faculty of Statistics. The IJ is Germany's leading institute for university-based journalism education. Hundreds of graduates of the IJ work as journalists in Germany's media, many of them in management positions. Through numerous research projects in communication and journalism studies, the IJ also enriches both academic and public debates. Together with the Faculty of Statistics, the only independent statistics faculty in the German-speaking world, the IJ has founded the Dortmund Center for Data-based Media Analysis (DoCMA). DoCMA is an interdisciplinary research project in which huge amounts of text are analysed with the help of algorithms. The Institute of Journalism at TU Dortmund University is responsible for overall coordination of GADMO.
